Description

The original medieval building has left no remains. The present château dates from the early years of the 19th century. After various uses and periods of abandonment, it has been completely restored.

The current building, still known by its name, only dates from the beginning of the last century. Previously, the feudal castle comprised four main buildings forming a square tower, with large "pavilions" at each corner. This ensemble was ransacked and burned in 1793 (see note) by soldiers of a Hérault battalion, who were passing through Romans. A few years later, the château was replaced by the present building, built on a different plan and on a smaller surface area. It offers no special features and is not based on any particular style. It is currently home to several families of EDF employees, who own it. As a result, it has undergone a number of alterations (windows closed or partially closed, interior modifications, etc.) and its facade is in poor condition. Its appearance has been marred by an unfortunate pylon placed on its access road. The roof, once of slate, is now of red tiles...
