Day 1: arrive in the Drôme
New for 2020 - Valence: trip down the river Rhône
When you arrive, your group will have lunch in Valence. Then you'll head for the Rhône, the river that crosses through the town, and on this leisurely, peaceful boat trip down the river, the secrets of the town will be revealed. This is a unique and very pleasant way to explore Valence and the surrounding area, from a different perspective. The dock will slowly disappear from view. Your group will head out towards the horizon. You'll put yourselves in the footsteps of a skipper, and admire the unique characteristics of this river, the surrounding landscapes and vineyards and you'll pass through a lock, to experience first hand this technical and ingenious contraption.
Tour of a wine cellar and tasting session
The winegrower will welcome you to his family-run estate for now 6 generations, you'll explore the wine cellar and learn about the expert know-how of the vines that has been passed on from generation to generation, to ensure this long tradition of winemaking in Rhône Valley is carried on.
Your group will taste the wines from the Crozes-Hermitage estate in Saint-Joseph.
This winemaking estate combines tradition and state-of-the-art techniques, to produce the best wines, while respecting the grapes.
Day 2: hidden treasures of Valence Romans
Guided tour of the canals of Valence
Walkers will appreciate the refreshingly peaceful atmosphere of the canals dotted throughout the town. The canals are a natural and ecological heritage site, the only one of its kind in France, and have been utilised in Valence since the Roman era.
These open-air canals have been used for watering, supplying the wash houses, then the mills and sawmills. There are numerous trails to embark upon, to admire the changing colours of the natural environment here, all year round.
OR in the summer, guided tour of Valence on a little tourist train
Truffles (from November to April)
Once all the mud and earth has been cleaned off a truffle, they actually resemble a black tuber, dotted with tiny diamonds and thin white veins running through them on the inside. Truffles can reach the size of a fist and they can be recognised by their powerful and wild scent.
At the producer's estate, your group will learn all about this crop and how it is collected.
Film, guided tour, walk around the estate, wine tasting and tasty bites with truffle butter.
Spirulina: revolutionary algae (from May to October)
In Châteauneuf-sur-Isère 15 minutes from Valence and Romans, you can visit the greenhouses and learn about the origin and benefits of this ancient algae, from the producer himself.
You will learn all there is to know about this super food, from how it is produced to how it is consumed.
Your group will be able to taste it and use it in their favourite recipes.
Dinner and evening of dancing at the cabaret
The artists themselves will open the doors to you and you'll be transported immediately into a festive atmosphere! Your experience will begin with a meal accompanied with musical entertainment so you can try out some new dance moves, then the show will begin!
