Drôme des Collines by bicycle

The Drôme des Collines cycle route takes you on an exploration of the countryside and hills to the north of Romans-sur-Isère. It's the perfect opportunity for a day out with friends or alone to take your time and admire the views.
The Drôme Department has several itineraries on offer, in partnership with local authorities (tourist offices, associations), to enjoy on foot, by bicycle or on a mountain bike. The Cycling recommendations include routes of varying distance and difficulty, ranging from a simple family-friendly bike ride to a more sporty outing.
This is a great way to (re)discover the Drôme, and in this case Drôme des Collines. These routes are all marked, but you can also get a map from the tourist office or the website. The routes generally take you along the smaller roads in the towns, but sometimes you'll find yourself alongside a busier road.

I also wanted to cycle around these hills that I already know so well... but by car. By bicycle, we really take the time to admire the views around us and we see things differently. We decided to set off along this route with 3 friends and on electric bicycles, leaving from Romans-sur-Isère.
The route takes you along the V63 green route alongside the Isère. Then, you cross through the village of Saint-Paul-lès-Romans, a pretty little place with the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa. After crossing through Châtillon-Saint-Jean, we come to the first main difficulty of the route. There is a steep uphill section here up into the hills of the Drôme, to reach the Chapelle de Gillons, the ruins of a priory that was attached to the Collegiate church. The surrounding countryside through the hills is very pleasant and you'll pass by farming fields. It is worth all the effort when you see the beautiful panoramic views. Then we head back to Romans and our great bike ride comes to an end.

Those looking for a fantastic day out in the great outdoors will enjoy this route around Drôme des Collines, with some superb views, not too far from the town.
