La Ferme de GENAS
Close to the Chanalets district and its 17th-century château, these farm buildings are part of an agricultural landscape of peach, cherry and apricot orchards, important resources of the Valence plain. The tower of a former fortified house built in the 16th century stands out. It belonged to the wealthy Genas family, who also owned the Dupré-Latour house in Valence. The Genas family had made their fortune in the salt trade, a vital commodity in the domestic economy. Resulting from erosion of the Alpine massifs during the glacial phases of the Quaternary, Rhone pebbles were used as building materials, notably for the walls of the nearby private chapel and surrounding hamlets.
