Guided tour of the International Shoes Museum

The International Shoes Museum in Romans invites your group on a journey, to discover this universal object that is the shoe. The superb collection is displayed in a prestigious setting: a former convent of the Visitation order and the landscaped gardens. The whole building is listed a historic monument.
All kinds of shoes are on display here, from the oldest of models to the most contemporary, the classic to the very extravagant, not-to-mention some rather exotic samples and some creations from famous shoemakers, past and present.
Muskateer boots, little shoes for the deformed feet of Chinese women, long-toed "poulaines" from the Middle Ages, and many more. There are 16,500 pieces in the collection on display in this superb building, covering 4,000 years of history from Ancient Times to today. The collections are regularly moved around the rooms of this building, that once housed the the nuns of the Visitation order. There are also some paintings (17th, 18th, 19th centuries) and temporary exhibitions to discover. The International Shoes Museum has an encyclopaedic collection on display, the only one of its kind in France.
Duration of the tour: 1 hour 30 mins.

Guided tour of Saint-Barnard Collegiate Church in Romans

The town of Romans was built around this molasse (soft sandstone) construction in the Middle Ages. Saint-Barnard Collegaite Church is a combination of the Roman era (lower section of the nave) and the Gothic period (upper section, choir and transept). Your group can visit the church's choir and will be amazed by the 14th-century wall paintings and the Chapel of Saint-Sacrement which houses one of the treasures of Romans' heritage, the "Mystère de la Passion" embroidered wall hanging from the 16th century. The sacristy is decorated with superb 18th-century woodwork in solid walnut and there are several religious artworks there.  The collegiate church has been listed as a historical monument since 1840.
