Description

Through a style that is both figurative and minimalist, Taquen combines natural and human elements to explore relationships, emotions, instincts, and behaviors.

Flora, fauna, the human figure, and dynamic movement form the fundamental pillars of his work, which is always expressed with poetic sensitivity.

The Work:
Valencia owes its name to the Roman Empire, which named it Valentia (in Latin). In Spanish, the word “valentía” means the strength needed to overcome one’s fears and face difficult situations. This concept is generally associated with a person who is capable of handling everything on their own—someone strong and determined. But there is another kind of courage that I appreciate more. The courage to accept defeat, to ask for help, to understand that we cannot face everything on our own—the courage to embrace our fragility and sensitivity. It is this courage that gives this mural its name. A hand rests on a back, caressing it. A hand that offers support.

The Artist:
Born in 1992 in A Coruña, Gonzalo Marin, known as Taquen, is a visual artist and muralist based in Madrid. He graduated with a degree in fine arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2015. His artistic practice revolves around movement, transformation, and the relationship between human beings and their environment. He has a deep connection to nature and the mountains. His work uses the line as a central element that generates multiple planes, dividing portraits and animals into colored sections reminiscent of stained-glass windows.
